ABOUT ORGAN DONATION

MY WILL

When my hour comes, do not attempt to introduce artificial life into my body by the use of a machine. Instead, give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby’s face or love in the eyes of a woman. Give my heart to a person whose own heart has caused  nothing but endless days of pain. Give my kidneys to one who depends on a machine to exist from week to week. Take my blood, my bones, every muscle and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child walk.
Explore every corner of my brain. Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that, someday, a speechless boy will be able to shout as his team scores a goal and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her window.
Burn what is left of me and scatter the ashes to the winds to help the flowers grow.
If you really want to bury something, let it be my faults, my weaknesses, and all prejudice against my fellow man.
Give my sins to the Devil. Give my soul to God.
If you shoud wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.

(from “To Remember Me”, Robert N.Test)

After reading the WONDERFUL text "My will" adapted from Robert test´s, the students were supposed to write a paragraph about their thinkings... here it goes:

I totally agree with organ donation. It is a way to save a life for somebody who really needs it. This shows kindness to our fellow man. For example, a man who has a family and kids to care, needs some kind of transplantation, if you donate you will saving not just him but all the family who needs him. When I die, I do not mind that my organs to be donated.         Wendel Ricardo

After reading Chief Seattle´s letter about selling their lands to the President of the U.S at http://www.barefootsworld.net/seattle.html, and the song I have killed the deer about the Taos Pueblo Indian, the students have done an exercise at our group on Facebook using the semantic field and the ideas contained in both. I will place here some examples.Very well done, including the images.

The Raven - narrated by James Earl Jones, Music Moonlight Sonata subtitles

This is the video I have mentioned below. Just watch it and you will be touched in some way.It may be by the narrator´s voice, by the song, by the selected images, by the words or by all of them. I SHIVERED...

THE RAVEN ( EDGAR ALLAN POE) SUMMARY

I HAVE GOT THIS SUMMARY OF THE POEM " THE RAVEN" AND I DECIDED TO GIVE IT TO MY STUDENTS ALONG WITH A  VIDEO NARRATED BY JAMES EARL JONES

 BEAUTIFUL AND TOUCHING.

UNTIL THE MOMENT,WE HAVE ALREADY SEEN THE MOVIE AND THE STUDENTS ARE DEVELOPING A RESEARCH ON THE GENRE WITH AN ADAPTATION ON VIDEOTHEY ARE GOING TO PRESENT NEXT MONTH. MAYBE I´LL ASK THEM TO LISTEN TO THE SUMMARY AT A VOICE SITE WHICH READS TEXTS IN A HUMAN-SOUNDING WAY AND SAY IT IN CLASS AFTERWARDS. I´M JUST PREPARING MY CLASSES FOR THE COMING WEEK ....SO, HERE IT GOES:

The Raven Summary
It's late at night, and late in the year (after midnight on a December evening, to be precise). A man is sitting in his room, half reading, half falling asleep, and trying to forget his lost love, Lenore. Suddenly, he hears someone (or something) knocking at the door.

He calls out, apologizing to the "visitor" he imagines must be outside. Then he opens the door and finds…nothing. This freaks him out a little, and he reassures himself that it is just the wind against the window. So he goes and opens the window, and in flies (you guessed it) a raven.

The Raven settles in on a statue above the door, and for some reason, our speaker's first instinct is to talk to it. He asks for its name, just like you usually do with strange birds that fly into your house, right? Amazingly enough, though, the Raven answers back, with a single word: "Nevermore."

Understandably surprised, the man asks more questions. The bird's vocabulary turns out to be pretty limited, though; all it says is "Nevermore." Our narrator catches on to this rather slowly and asks more and more questions, which get more painful and personal. The Raven, though, doesn't change his story, and the poor speaker starts to lose his sanity.

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Serenade, (1st Movement)

This week  I had the sweet satisfaction of  finishing my classes with this treasure of AMADEUS WOLFGANG MOZART after reading, with the students from the 9th grade, a text  about " The Mozart Effect" and the transformational power of music on our brain. I feel good and  happy when I learn with my students and when I have the opportunity to work with culture in my classes.

PS. A student who studies music  brought his keyboard  and played beautifully  in one of the classes.

Read more about it at  http://www.indiana.edu/~intell/mozarteffect2.shtml#why
