BILLY COLLINS AND HIS ANIMATED POETRY

This is a very interesting poem  by Billy Collins. He was selected as the New York State Poet for 2004-2006. Billy Collins has been called the most popular poet in America still  alive and has won many prizes....I´m here imagining what would happen if I showed this animation to my students and asked them to write a little poem and make an animation... Bet they would give their all...
One can find more of Billy Collins on You Tube or at the good site on poetry below:

I hope you like it.

ADELE

Some from the site http://www.lyricstraining.com/index.php I have mentioned before. I´ve chosen Adele mainly because I can feel passion when she sings: passion on the lyrics and passion on singing...and what a voice she has! How about  a Karaoke on a sunny Sunday? Or maybe some practice on listening chosing among easy, medium and expert? Have a lovely weekend you all.

POEM 1 FROST

I´m very proud of my students when they use all their sensibility to do jobs like the ones I´ve posted on "STUDENTS ON THE ROAD".  For this activity they have read Robert Frost´s poem " Stopping by woods on a snowy evening" suggested on the course of English language specialization  (REDEFOR)  in one   of the activities. As Frost is one of my favorite poets I decided to use it in the classroom.

First, the students  analyzed the poem in groups of four; then, they were challenged to express the content using technological resources. So, they decided it would be a video in which they would choose the song and images that best represented the poem. I´d like to thank them all, especially  Eduardo, Lucas Santos, Hamon, João Otávio, Fabrício Negrini and Arielton for their choices and the emotional and  powerful way they´ve done it. Congrats guys!

DESERT FLOWER

Let´s start writing something about movies. All my friends and colleagues  know  that I love movies, actually I travel on them, especially drama. Some of them I have watched more than once like FORREST GUMP,  A BEAUTIFUL  MIND, ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, GODFATHER, IL POSTINO, MODERN TIMES, CINEMA PARADISO, OLIVER TWIST AND MANY, MANY OTHERS, JUST TO MENTION SOME.
I WILL POST TODAY ONE THAT I LOVE:  DESERT FLOWER which is an  autobiography of Waris  Dirie a Somalian nomad circumcised at early age, sold for marriage at 13 and became an American supermodel. Today she is a  UN spokeswoman against circumcision.

After watching to the movies the students have done a research about her, and the problem she had faced,  and  discovered  that there are more than 20 countries that still practice the ritual. It was a moment for reflection on cultures and violation of rights. A very touching story.
